Employee Spotlight: Q&A with Jason Carreiro
Where Craft Meets Commitment: Jason’s Hands-On Journey with Bristol Marine

What is your background? Where are you from? What are some of your hobbies? Any fun facts about yourself?
I’m originally from Fall River, MA. I’m Portuguese and still speak a little of the language. Outside of work, I’m into all kinds of sports—especially basketball and baseball—and I’m also a car guy. I help my friends with detailing, window tinting, and fixing up their cars. I’ve always been good with my hands, and I’ve got kids of my own who keep me busy too.

How did you get into this industry?
I got my start working with my uncle at a curtain factory, but when that closed, I was out of a job until my Uncle Bob—who was working at J&J Marine—asked if I wanted to come work with him. That’s how I found my way into this industry. I started with the basics—painting boat bottoms, waxing, buffing—and then eventually I moved into carpentry. At first, there wasn’t an opening in the carpentry shop, but when one of the younger guys went into an electrical apprenticeship, I got the opportunity. I’ve been doing this kind of work since I was 18. It’s been over 20 years now, and I still love it.

What excites you about this industry?
Honestly, it’s the satisfaction of building something with your own two hands and seeing the finished result. That feeling of pride when a job is done right—it never gets old. I want my work to be something I’m proud of, and I take it seriously because I’m not just doing it for the customer—I’m doing it for Bristol Marine, too.

Why did you choose Bristol Marine?
I was originally with J&J Marine for about eight years before Bristol Marine acquired the yard. My old boss ended up working for Bristol Marine and called me to see if I wanted to come on board. I said yes, and I’ve been here ever since.

What’s coming next for you at Bristol Marine?
Right now, it’s all about building the best team we can and continuing to take on bigger and more challenging projects. Since Andy Tyska came in, the facility has completely transformed—more dockage, more slips, new permanent buildings, and upgrades to the offices. It’s exciting to be part of a company that’s constantly improving, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can accomplish next.
